Setting Your Ownership Percentage

How to set your ownership percentage for a property in Nexus

Written by Oliver Chiang

Your ownership percentage tells Nexus what % of a property you own. This matters because it affects how your income and tax are calculated for that property

You can set the ownership percentage for a single property, or review and update the percentages for all of your properties at once.

Setting Ownership for a Single Property

  1. Select Properties from the navigation menu.

  2. Find the property you want to update and open its row menu (the icon).

  3. Select Edit ownership %.

  4. Enter your ownership percentage for that property.

  5. Click Save.

Updating Ownership for All Properties

If you'd like to check or update several properties together:

  1. Go to the Update ownership percentage page by selecting the settings menu on the Properties page.

  2. Review each property's ownership percentage in the list. You can use the search bar to find a specific property.

  3. Edit the percentage for any property directly in its row.

  4. Click Save to apply your changes.

Why This Matters

Please make sure your ownership percentage is correct for each property. Because it directly affects how your income and tax figures are calculated, an incorrect percentage can lead to your reports and submissions being over or understated.

If you jointly own a property and are unsure what percentage to enter, your accountant or tax adviser can help you confirm the correct share.

This article is general guidance on using Nexus and is not tax advice. How ownership shares affect your tax depends on your circumstances; if in doubt, speak to a qualified accountant or tax adviser.
