How to sign a document sent to you by your landlord

For tenants: open the e-signature request email, sign the document electronically, and receive the final copy.

Written by Oliver Chiang

If your landlord or letting agent uses Landlord Studio, they can send you a document (such as a lease agreement) for you to sign electronically. This guide explains the email you'll receive, how to sign, and what happens once everyone has signed.

What you need to know

  • The signing request comes by email from Landlord Studio on behalf of your landlord.

  • You must have a Tenant Portal account to sign. If you already have a Tenant Portal login, you can use it.

  • Your typed or drawn signature is legally equivalent to a handwritten signature.

  • Once everyone has signed, you'll receive a final copy of the document by email.

Open the signing request

Step 1: Find the email titled "Your Signature Is Requested for [Property Address]" in your inbox. The sender is Landlord Studio on behalf of your landlord.

โ„น๏ธ If you can't find the email, check your spam or junk folder. If it's not there, contact the landlord who sent the request and ask them to resend it.

Step 2: Select "Sign document".

Step 3: If you already have a Tenant Portal login, sign in. Otherwise, follow the prompts to create an account to access the document.

Sign the document

Step 1: Review the document in full.

Step 2: Select the signature field assigned to you to open the "Add signature" panel.

Step 3: Draw your signature in the canvas with your mouse, finger, or stylus, then enter your full name in the "Full name" field.

Step 4: Select "Sign & Submit".

By selecting "Sign & Submit", you confirm that this electronic signature is the legal equivalent of your handwritten signature.

What happens after you sign

If you are the only signer, the document is completed straight away. If there are other signers (for example, co-tenants), the document stays open until everyone has signed.

Once everyone has signed, Landlord Studio emails the final PDF to every signer. The signed copy includes an audit trail with each signer's name, email, IP address, and the time they signed.
